VS2 is the most popular clarity grade in the world, and the market is right. Almost always eye clean, meaningfully more accessible than everything above it, and abundant enough to be choosy about the things that actually show: cut, color, and size.
A VS2 diamond carries minor inclusions that a skilled grader finds with only modest effort at 10x magnification, typically small crystals, feathers, or clouds sitting outside the stone's center. The vast majority of VS2 diamonds are eye clean, and in brilliant cuts under two carats the exceptions are rare enough to be notable.
VS2 is where beauty and budget genuinely meet, which is why it outsells every other grade. It captures nearly all of the practical benefit of the grades above it while leaving budget on the table for the factors your eye actually ranks first: the quality of the cut, the whiteness of the color, the presence of the stone on the hand.

Choose VS2 as the default for brilliant cuts. It is the market's favorite grade because it deserves to be: eye clean in practice, sensible in price, abundant in supply.
Step down with a gemologist involved. A verified eye clean SI1 is the only thing on the scale that beats a VS2 on value.

VS2 is at home in every brilliant cut: round, oval, cushion, radiant, pear, marquise, princess. In step cuts and in stones above two carats, we recommend reviewing the specific stone on video, since larger tables and open facets give inclusions more room to appear.

The most popular grade on the scale is popular for the right reasons.
It is rare that the market's default is also the expert's recommendation, but VS2 is that case. Nearly every VS2 brilliant cut is eye clean, the price steps down meaningfully from VS1, and supply is deep enough to hold out for an excellent cut. The two places we pump the brakes: step cuts, where VS2 needs individual review, and very large stones, where inclusions scale with the diamond. Everywhere else, the crowd has it right.
