Unusual by Design

Unique Engagement Rings

A unique engagement ring is one where the setting does something a classic solitaire does not: the band crosses itself, twists into a rope, bypasses the diamond, knots under it, or carries a second diamond no one sees but the person wearing it. These are the settings in our collection that were drawn to be noticed from across a table, and each one is still built the way every RockHer ring is, modeled around the exact diamond you choose and made to order in Los Angeles.

What you will not find here is a gimmick. Every design holds its center diamond on proper prongs or a proper bezel, sits flat on the finger, and takes a wedding band beside it. Unusual is the look, not the engineering.

One fair price

Each setting and each diamond carries a single price. No codes, no strikethroughs, no timing the purchase.

GIA or IGI certified

Natural diamonds graded by GIA. Lab diamonds graded by IGI. Our gemologist verifies every diamond against its certificate before it is set.

Resizing and warranty

60 day complimentary resizing, lifetime warranty, and the Ring Size Guide before you order.

The designs in this collection

  • Bypass and criss cross. The two ends of the band pass each other instead of meeting, so the diamond sits in the crossing. Reads as movement from the top and as a single clean band from the side.
  • Twisted and rope. Two strands, one plain and one pavé, wound around each other. The twist catches light along the whole band, not only at the center.
  • Love knot and swirl. The band ties beneath the diamond or curls around it. The most sculptural settings we make.
  • Surprise diamond. A second diamond set into the underside of the gallery, visible only when the ring comes off. Our clients call it the private detail.
  • Vintage leaf and interweave. Hand drawn pattern work on the shank, built into the CAD model and finished by hand.

Two ways to own one

Build your ring. Choose a setting below, then pair it with a natural or lab diamond from our inventory in the shape that setting takes. A ROSI™ Score Report, our gemological intelligence, reads the cut performance and fair market position of any natural diamond you are considering, and John Anderson, our Lead Gemologist, reviews the shortlist with you.

Commission something that does not exist yet. If the design you have in mind is not here, the same designers who drew these settings will draw yours. Start with a conversation, not a form.

Build Your Ring Talk to a Jeweler

A ring that is unusual on a screen can be ordinary on a hand, and the reverse is just as common. Before you decide, ask how the design sits on a hand the size of hers. John has seen every one of these on a finger and will tell you plainly.

How to choose an unusual setting

  • Start with her hand, not the ring. Bypass and twist designs widen the look of the finger; vertical designs lengthen it.
  • Decide where the light should come from. A solitaire puts all of it in the center. A twisted or pavé band spreads it along the finger and makes a smaller center read larger.
  • Check the wedding band. Some bypass and swirl designs need a contoured band to sit flush. We make the matching band from the same CAD file, so it fits by design rather than by luck.
  • Keep the diamond honest. An unusual setting does not change what the certificate says. The ROSI™ report applies the same way it does to a solitaire.
  • Look at the side view. The profile is where these designs are either beautiful or busy. Every setting page shows it; look there before you look at the price.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes an engagement ring unique?

The setting. A unique engagement ring uses a band or gallery design that departs from the classic solitaire, halo or three stone form: a bypass, a twist, a knot, a swirl, a surprise diamond under the center, or pattern work on the shank. The diamond is chosen the same way as for any ring; the design is where the individuality lives.

Are unusual engagement rings practical for daily wear?

The ones in this collection are. Every design holds the diamond on standard prongs or a bezel, sits flat on the finger, and is built to the same standard as every ring we make, with the same lifetime warranty.

Can a wedding band fit next to a unique engagement ring?

Yes. Straight bands sit beside most twist and interweave designs. Bypass and swirl designs usually take a contoured band, which we make from the same CAD file as the engagement ring so the two fit as one piece.

Can I have a unique engagement ring designed from scratch?

Yes. The designers who drew the settings in this collection draw private commissions as well. The process starts with a conversation with our Lead Gemologist, then a CAD model built around your diamond for written approval before anything is made.

Natural or lab diamond for a unique setting?

Either. Both are certified, natural by GIA and lab by IGI, and the setting is modeled to the diamond in both cases. Lab diamonds give you more carat for the same spend; natural diamonds are rarer and hold their place in the market differently.

How long does a unique engagement ring take?

8 to 12 business days from the day the diamond is confirmed for a setting in this collection. A private commission adds the design stage at the front, usually a few business days for the CAD model and your approval.
