Oval Hidden Halo Engagement Rings

A hidden halo is a ring of pavé diamonds set beneath the center diamond, around the base of the basket, where it is seen from the side and from the hand rather than from above. Face up, the ring reads as a clean oval solitaire. In profile, it carries a second line of light. The oval is the shape this detail was made for: its elongated outline leaves the halo fully exposed on the long sides of the diamond, so the effect is visible at every angle the hand moves through.

Every ring in this collection is made to order in our Los Angeles atelier. The design is modeled around the exact measurements of the diamond you choose, so the hidden halo sits tight to the girdle and the prongs hold the oval at its correct points. Nothing here is pulled from a shelf.

Two ways to own one

Build your ring. Choose any hidden halo oval setting below, then pair it with a natural or lab diamond from our inventory. Each diamond carries a ROSI™ Score Report, our gemological intelligence that grades cut performance and fair market position before you commit. John Anderson, our Lead Gemologist, reviews every report.

Choose a Select ring. The Select rings in this collection arrive complete: an IGI certified lab oval already matched to the setting, in the carat weight you choose. Same atelier, same production, fewer decisions.

A hidden halo adds light from the side, not from above. It does not make the oval look larger face up. If a larger face is what you want, a visible halo does that job. If you want a solitaire that rewards a second look, this is the one.

How to choose an oval for a hidden halo

  • Ratio. A length to width ratio between 1.35 and 1.45 gives the classic oval outline and leaves room for the halo to read on both long sides.
  • Bow tie. Every oval has one. Look for a faint one that moves with the diamond rather than a dark bar that stays fixed. ROSI™ flags this on the report.
  • Color. Ovals show color in the points more than rounds. H or better faces up white in platinum and white gold. Yellow and rose gold are forgiving down to J.
  • Prongs. Four prongs keep the oval open. The hidden halo sits below them, so the center diamond stays fully visible.
  • Band. A pavé band continues the line of the halo. A plain band makes the halo the only detail, which many clients prefer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a hidden halo on an oval engagement ring?

A hidden halo is a circle of small pavé diamonds set beneath the center oval, around the base of the basket or the top of the shank. It is not visible when you look straight down at the ring. It shows from the side and in motion, which is how a ring is seen most of the time on the hand.

Does a hidden halo make the oval look bigger?

No. A hidden halo sits below the diamond, so it does not add to the face up size. It adds light to the profile. If you want the center to appear larger from above, choose a visible halo instead.

Is a hidden halo durable for daily wear?

Yes. The halo diamonds are set into the structure of the basket rather than on top of it, which keeps them low, protected, and away from snags. Each diamond is set under magnification and inspected before the ring leaves the atelier. The ring carries a lifetime warranty.

Can I use a natural or a lab diamond in these settings?

Both. The Build settings accept natural oval diamonds graded by GIA or lab oval diamonds graded by IGI. The Select rings are complete with an IGI certified lab oval. Either way, the setting is modeled around that specific diamond.

How long does an oval hidden halo ring take to make?

8 to 12 business days from the time the diamond is confirmed. The CAD model is built around the measurements on the certificate, the diamond is verified against the certificate by our gemologist, and the ring is finished in Los Angeles.

What if the ring does not fit?

Resizing is complimentary for 60 days after delivery. Use the Ring Size Guide or our virtual ring sizer on any setting page before ordering.
