The emerald cut is a step cut. Instead of the small triangular facets that make a round brilliant scintillate, it uses long parallel planes that open into the diamond like a hall of mirrors. The result is broad flashes of light and a clean architectural outline that reads elegant rather than showy. On the ear, an emerald cut also wears larger than its carat weight, because the shape carries its size across the face rather than down into the pavilion.
Step cuts hide nothing. A round brilliant scatters light in hundreds of directions and visually camouflages small inclusions and faint color. An emerald cut does the opposite. Those open parallel planes act like clear glass, so any inclusion or tint sits in plain view. That is why we do not offer this shape in lower grades. Every emerald cut pair is D color and VVS clarity, so the diamond stays colorless and eye clean from every angle, including the angles a step cut is famous for exposing.
Two emerald cuts can share identical carat weight and identical grading and still look wrong together. Length to width ratio is what the eye actually reads on the ear, and a difference of a few hundredths shows immediately. Every pair is selected together and matched for length to width ratio, face-up measurements, table proportion, and outline, so both sides mirror each other when worn. Both IGI certificates ship with the earrings.
An emerald cut cannot sit in a round head. The corners have to be cradled and the long sides supported, so each basket is built specifically for the shape, with prongs positioned to protect the corners without cutting into the outline. The basket sits low and close to the earlobe so the diamond stays forward and the earring does not tilt.

Push backs are the lightest and the easiest to put on. Screw backs thread onto the post and will not work loose during the day, which is what most clients choose above 2ct total weight. La Pousette backs use a spring lock released by pressing two tabs, and are the most secure option available for larger pairs.
All three metals are solid throughout, never plated over a base metal. 18K white gold and platinum both read neutral and let a colorless emerald cut stay icy. 18K yellow gold gives a warmer frame around the diamond. Because every diamond here is D color, yellow gold will not pull warmth into the diamond itself, since color transfer is only a concern in lower color grades.
At equal carat weight, an emerald cut generally appears longer and larger on the ear because more of its weight sits in the face-up outline. A round brilliant returns more rapid sparkle. An emerald cut returns fewer, broader, brighter flashes and a cleaner silhouette. Neither is better. They are different effects.
Yes. Each diamond is graded by IGI and both certificates ship with the earrings, listing carat weight, color, clarity, measurements, and lab-grown origin.

How well the diamond returns light. The most important C: a poorly cut diamond looks dull no matter how large or clear it is. We only set Excellent and Very Good cut grades.
How colorless the diamond is, graded D through Z. For studs, H to I is the sweet spot: the stones read white in the ear at a fraction of the cost of D to F grades.
Internal characteristics, graded from Flawless to Included. Earrings are viewed at arm's length, never under a loupe, so eye-clean stones read flawless in the ear. Our gemologists verify every stone we set is eye-clean.
The weight and visual size of the stone. Studs are listed by total carat weight across the pair, so 1/2 ct. t.w. means each ear carries a quarter carat.

Total carat weight. The listed weight is split across the pair, so a 1/2 ct. t.w. pair carries a quarter carat in each ear. Jewelers list studs by the pair total because that is how the pair reads when worn.
These studs are set with lab grown diamonds, chemically and optically identical to natural diamonds and graded on the same scales. We also offer natural diamond studs as a separate line if you prefer that route.
