Heart shapes require strong symmetry, the two lobes must be identical in size and shape. Look for a well-defined cleft at the top and a sharp point at the bottom. Length-to-width ratio: 0.95:1 to 1.05:1.
The halo of melee surrounding the center stone adds approximately 0.3 to 0.5 carats of visual size, plus dramatically more sparkle. A halo also protects the center stone and allows a smaller center to look significantly larger.
